While we are talking about the highest bridge ever in the world the guinness book of records shows the one and only one result named as Millau Viaduct  cable stayed bridge in France. A Brief Introduction…………….


The construction world makes the life much easier and comfort. There are lots of gunnies records for Different types of entities as tallest man, tallest women, biggest book, and many more. But when it’s all about the matters of awesome creativities in the world we just talk about the superb constructions by civil engineers. The tallest bridge ever, as much good it sounds it seems to be as tougher to create.
The cable stayed bridge Millau Viaduct situated in France is the one of wonderful creativities in the world which is the tallest bridge ever that spans between the valley of river Tarn near Millau in southern France.


History Behind the Creation……………………

 

Traffic problems on the route from Paris to Spain along a stretch passing through the valley of river tarn, was considered the reason of many problems while the roads got jammed by holiday traffic. Focusing on this problem in 1987 CETE discussed and government consulted seven architects and eight structural engineers. Finally jury decided to construct a cable stayed bridge.
    
                                    

The bridge so constructed costs up to 394 million Euros(€), 127000 cubic meters of concrete, 19000 tonnes of steel reinforcement and 5000 tonnes of steel for pre-stressed steel for cables and shrouds.


Timeline of Construction………………..


  • 16 October 2001: work Begins.
  • 14 December 2001: Laying of First Stone.
  • June 2002: Start of work on piers.
  • 25 February 2003: Laying of First Piece of Roadway.
  • November 2003: Completion of Last Pier.
  • 10 January 2005: initial Planned Opening Date.

This bridge construction made many of records as-
  • The highest pylons in the world:  P2 244.96 meters (803 ft 8 inches) and P3 221.05 meters(725 ft 3 inches).
  • The highest bridge tower in the world: mast at top of pylon P2 peaks at 343 meters (1,125 ft), which is higher than Eiffel tower.
  • The highest road deck in Europe:  270 meters (890 ft) above Tarn River at its highest point.

  • 77 m (253 ft): height of Pier 7, the shortest
  • 343 m (1,125 ft): height of Pier 2, the tallest (245 m/804 ft at the roadway's level)
  • 87 m (285 ft): height of a mast
  • 154: number of shrouds
  • 270 m (886 ft): average height of the roadway
  • 4.20 m (13 ft 9 in): thickness of the roadway
  • 85,000 m3 (111,000 cu yd): total volume of concrete used
  • 290,000 metric tons (320,000 short tons): total weight of the bridge
  • 10,000–25,000 vehicles: estimated daily traffic.
